Each year a staggering 375 million empty ink and toner cartridges are thrown away, with most ending up in landfills or in incinerators. To put this into perspective, put end-to-end this volume of cartridges would circle the earth over three times.
Furthermore, the plastics used in cartridges have a slow decomposition rate, ranging between 450 to 1000 years and added to this is the additional hazard is that they may also leak printer ink, polluting the surrounding environment.
Despite these shocking figures, it is estimated that only 20% to 40% of ink cartridges are recycled. Here at Norwich Print Solutions we are determined to reduce this vast wastage and prevent these harmful chemicals polluting our landscape, so we are proud to recycle ALL of our ink cartridges.
Deforestation is one of today’s most pressing environmental concerns; every tree produces enough oxygen for three people to breathe so deforestation obviously exposes a threat to the world in which we live.
Here at Norwich Print Solutions we are conscious of the paper we discard and how we dispose of it. All of our paper offcuts are recycled, which reduces paper waste. The paper making industry is also criticised for its heavy use of chemicals such as chlorine and chlorine compounds, so we also use partly recycled paper which saves oil and energy, whilst cutting air and water pollution. These efforts aim to cut down on these damaging consequences.
Traditional litho printing takes time, money and creates waste. The process also uses harsh chemicals which are damaging to the environment.
Here at Norwich Print Solutions, we opt for digital printing. This method is environmentally friendly as it allows for an exact amount to be printed, minimising paper wastage. Digital print also uses far less harmful chemicals making the process kinder to the environment, and we are also able to recycle all of the ink cartridges from our printers.
