Priscilla Bacon Hospice Story
Priscilla Bacon Lodge, on Unthank Road is the existing hospice for central Norfolk and many of you will have heard of it as you will have had a friend, family member or loved one who has received care or spent their final days in there. Priscilla Bacon Lodge was built 40 years ago following a county-wide fundraising appeal and has provided a very high standard of specialist palliative care. Despite its achievements, it is now inadequate both in scale and configuration, as the population of Norfolk has trebled in this time, multiplying demand, and in its current location it cannot be extended. Therefore, a new charity has been created, Priscilla Bacon Hospice, which has just launched a campaign to raise £12.5 million to build a new hospice with 24 in-patient beds and replace Priscilla Bacon Lodge. The new hospice will be built adjacent to the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital and will also have improved day care and out-patients facilities as well as a coordination centre for the ‘Hospice at Home’ team who deliver end-of-life care in the community. 40 years ago, the people of Norfolk came together to raise the funds to build Priscilla Bacon Lodge. Now it is our turn to do the same.
